All disks fail at some point.

Losing data through sudden disk failure can be devastating, both personally and financially. SMART Alec's feature set is designed to protect you against the surprise of sudden disk failure by constantly checking the health of your disks.

If SMART Alec finds any issues with your disks, you'll be the first to know, with plenty of time to replace your disk and save your data.

IS YOUR DISK FAILING NOW?

If your disk is failing, you'll get a "Disk Failing" warning in the status bar, plus SMART Alec will put a large red warning on the tile of the failing disk. Although a failing disk is something to worry about, SMART Alec will let you know as early as possible, so you'll have time to get a replacement.

IS YOUR DISK GOING TO FAIL SOMETIME SOON?

If your disk is likely to fail in the near future you'll get a "Predicted to fail" notice in the status bar, plus a yellow warning on your disk tile. "Predicted to fail" means that your disk is ok at the moment, but it has issues that mean it could fail sometime soon, so start thinking about a replacement to keep your data safe!

With your disk tile selected, click on the disk details tab to find all kinds of information about your disk.

Want to know about what happened with your disk last week? There's a disk log where you can keep track of your disk's history.

HOW RELIABLE IS MY DISK MODEL/BRAND?

In future releases, SMART Alec will upload data from opted-in users' disks into its self-learning system, which will analyse performance and failure information from thousands of disks to provide statistical information about the most—and least—reliable disk models available.

If you opt-in to share data about your disk's reliability and performance, you'll get access to this valuable information—letting you make informed judgements about which disks can most reliably store your data. You'll also get to find out about the reliability of the disks you're currently using, and whether your data could be at risk.
